Reeling Through the Years
JACKSON FIVE / J5 ERA: 1958-1975
Picture a young boy, no older than 10 years old, standing in a recording studio, deep in the roots of soul. Imagine this young man being no older than a 4th grader, but already wiser than countless artists twice his age. Now envision a musical voice so powerful and pure that it knocks your socks off from the first lyric. Picture all of that. Who do you have? Michael Jackson.
The world's recognized Michael Jackson as a superstar since he was just 11 years old in 1969. From hit songs like “ABC,” “Dancing Machine” and “I’ll Be There” with the Jackson 5, to his solo hits at Motown Records, Michael’s Motown legacy's left a lasting impact. The Michael Jackson Reel is a website dedicated to memories from those who knew Michael throughout his youth. Though he left an impact on the world throughout his life, The Michael Jackson Reel is dedicated to a time that changed music forever, when he was just a kid becoming a young man. In the 1950’s and 60’s, soul music was paving its own way around the world. Groups and artists like The Mills Brothers, Four Tops and Stevie Wonder were thriving, while the young Jackson brothers in Gary, Ind., were still honing their own musical dynamics. Who would have known that in just six short years, (1969-1975), the Jackson 5 would release over 10 albums, generating what became known as Jacksonmania. (And those numbers don’t even count the solo albums Michael released in that time frame). |
